About Dorothy

Dorothy Smith was born in Manchester and developed a fascination with drawing and painting from an early age. She spent endless days in the Manchester City Gallery, in the Pre-Raphaelite Collection which inspired her to study Fine Art and Printing at Mather College. There she was able to indulge her eclectic taste in Art, though she found she had a particular fondness for the painters of the late 19th and early 20th Century - from the Japanese illustrators to the Impressionists. Her dissertation explored fantasy art and subsequently, her major influences include fantasy illustrators such as Arthur Rackham, Aubrey Beardsley, and also the French Pointillists.
